Fred J. Anthony graduated from Providence College, in Providence, Rhode Island with a Bachelor Degree in 1986. He received his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1989, where he was chosen by his classmates to deliver the commencement address.
Returning to his hometown, Shelton, Attorney Anthony was appointed Assistant Corporation Council for the City of Shelton and held that post until 1995. In that capacity, he represented the city in various municipal sections including zoning enforcement, tax matters and litigation before several commissions, agencies and courts.
In 1992, he formed Anthony & Reale with Matthew C. Reale, a law school classmate. The partnership allows for the capitalization of each partner’s unique talents and experience.
While Attorney Anthony is able to handle a wide range of legal issues, he focuses on matters regarding:

Attorney Anthony has successfully represented family law litigants in family matters such as divorce, custody, relocation, and post judgment enforcement. While most cases are geographically centered around the Milford and Bridgeport Courts, he also represents clients in New Haven, Waterbury, Danbury and the Family Regional Trial Court in Middletown. Attorney Anthony serves as a Special Master in both the Ansonia-Milford and Bridgeport judicial districts, reviewing divorce cases prior to their scheduled trial dates and helping parties mediate mutually acceptable agreements
In 1994, Fred Anthony was elected Judge of Probate for the City of Shelton and has been re-elected every four years since. In said capacity, he has presided over countless matters involving estates, conservatorships of incapacitated adults and guardianship of neglected and abused children.
Judge Anthony served as President-Judge of the Connecticut Probate Assembly between 2008-2010. During his term, a massive overhaul of the Connecticut Probate Courts was accomplished. Both court facilities and practices were consolidated and streamlined to provide more comprehensive and uniform services to all residents of the State of Connecticut. For his work, Judge Anthony was recognized by the Connecticut Law Tribune as one of the “Dozen Who Make a Difference” by improving the legal system of the community. Judge Anthony has also been designated by the Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court as a “Special Assignment Judge”. In such capacity he is assigned to hear complex matters in other probate districts.
In 2013, Judge Anthony was named President-Elect of the National College of Probate Judges. The College is the only national organization exclusively dedicated to improving probate law and probate courts. Its members include probate judges from across the country. In addition, Judge Anthony has served on its faculty and remains a member of its executive committee. In 2014, Judge Anthony became the President of the National College of Probate Judges at the Fall Conference in Florida.
Attorney Anthony is admitted to practice law in Connecticut and is also admitted to practice before the United States Federal District Court and the United States Supreme Court.
Fred Anthony is the father of three children and remains an active member of the community he was raised in. He serves as an active participant in many charitable and community organizations.
